How did you get started in following your dream?
I took a class in Positive Psychology my last year of college and decided to chase a dream and not a dollar bill. I truly believed that this route, one would lead to the other.
What has helped you in the process of following your dream?
Family and friends have helped all along. It’s not easy to stay motivated but living in a city like New York you have to move quick and stay on the right track.
What is your favourite photo you have ever taken and why?
My favorite photo I have ever taken was at Lake Garibaldi in Canada. It was one of the longest hikes I have ever done so the photo was pretty much the reward.
What is it about New York that inspires you?
The hustle and bustle of this city and how fast it moves, the way people look and dress every day keeps me constantly hungry for more. I won’t settle until I truly have what I want…which changes every day. Outside of the city I always find inspiration in nature. Getting out of the city makes me realize its ok to slow down and think outside of the box.
What challenges have you encountered and how have you overcome them?
I’m challenged every day with staying motivated. It’s hard to stay consistent and keep creating content when everything is moving so fast.
What message are you trying to share with your work?
I’m just trying to capture places and scenes I encounter along the way. I want my photos to be a retreat for those who can’t be there to see it first hand.
How do you deal with criticism?
I enjoy criticism, I’m not perfect and I know that. I always want to know how I can be better and I’m always willing to learn more.
What is it that you love about photography?
I love photography because there are no rules, no rights or wrongs. It’s an escape from the norms of every day life. You can literally shoot whatever you want, wherever you want.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists?
Don’t ever stop what you’re doing. Make relationships with other artists, have conversations, be inspired, learn how to get better.
What have you learned in the process of following your dream?
It’s never easy, no one can tell you how to do it. Your dream is yours for a reason and needs to be done your way… no mater what.
What are you most excited for in the future?
I am excited to keep traveling, keep shooting, and keep working hard. I can’t sit still so every day I wake up excited to keep it moving.
