Interview 4- Anchored

“Lyrically all the ideas originate from personal life experiences. This translates well with fans because most can relate in one way or another. Our new Ep Outlook in a nutshell is about changing the way you perceive any situation because no matter what it is your Outlook is your choice.”

Perth Metal/Hardcore band Anchored just recently reached over 20,000 views on Youtube for their new video Safe Haven. The five members, Jesse, Chris, Locky, Steve and Nathan have just returned from their first ever national tour with bands Saviour and For All Eternity. They released their EP Outlook back in October. Thanks to Locky Wilson from Anchored for taking part. Read on to find out more.

What inspired the name Anchored?

Anchored was originally a song name (which later was renamed to “Through the Glass”) at the time the band was originally named State of Ruin but that never really stuck. Anchored however was clean and simple and we felt was open to interpretation.

How was it touring as a group for the first time?

Grosss!!!! Haha.

It definitely was a life changing experience for all of us, we had a lot of fun and met some really awesome people. The shows went great, we feel we left a good impression and we cant wait to get back on the road again. That been said it was certainly challenging and we have a lot more respect for bands that tour on a regular basis.

What was it like playing with other acts on tour?

We certainly got very close with the other bands on the road Saviour and For All Eternity. So it was like hanging out with your best friends every day. All the local bands that we played with were certainly very friendly, accommodating and awesome to hang out with. There is also a great deal of talent out there in Australia so we were always learning from all the bands we played with, which is pretty awesome.

Jesse writes most of the songs, where does the inspiration come from?

Lyrically all the ideas originate from personal life experiences. This translates well with fans because most can relate in one way or another. Our new Ep Outlook in a nutshell is about changing the way you perceive any situation because no matter what it is your Outlook is your choice.

Where do you guys usually play in Perth?

The two main venues in Perth for heavy music are YMCA HQ and Amplifyer Bar. So we are playing there pretty regularly. However we have played at The Beat Nightclub, Newport Hotel, the Swan Basement and the Cockburn Youth Center.

How often do you rehearse and where?

We usually Jam once a week at Soundworks in Ozzy Park. But we all hang out during the week and the band is always been talked about.

You’ve developed quite a base of loyal fans; do they keep you guys going?

Yeah for sure! We play and write music because we love doing it. However we certainly would never even have considered pushing it this far if it wasn’t for other people’s reaction to our music. It really is a very rewarding experience and certainly keeps the drive going.

Do you have any band-related tattoos?!

Haha yeah we have a few fans with Anchored related tattoos which is super cool!

What advice would you give to other upcoming bands, especially trying to break into the Metal scene?

Network, Network, Network! Make sure you are going to shows and meeting people. When you are on stage be enthusiastic about being there and make sure you engage the crowd. Get some studio time and make sure your music is easy for people to find, for example free cds at shows.
